ETIM International has more developments to report about their bSDD publications. ETIM 10.0 has been awarded the verified status. A preview version of ETIM Modelling Classes has been uploaded as well as a German and Norwegian translation have been added to the ETIM 10.0 publication.
ETIM 10.0 awarded the verified label
We are very proud – as one of the first dictionaries ever in bSDD – to have been awarded the verified status for ETIM 10.0. This verification label proves that our bSDD publication has passed over 30 quality assurance checks. Anyone can upload their own dictionary to the bSDD regardless of purpose, organization and quality. While this is great to stimulate use and innovation, this label is an important feature to separate the professional and validated dictionaries like ETIM 10.0 from the experimental ones.
ETIM 10.0 translations
As of March 2025 we have uploaded the official German and Norwegian translations for ETIM 10.0 in the bSDD platform.
ETIM translations contain validated translations which are maintained by native speaking individuals from the industry and trade associations that support our cause. These translations are managed and owned by our local ETIM chapters. German and Norwegian are two languages that have been checked and validated for ETIM 10.0 by the national ETIM Chapters in Germany and Norway. Both translations are openly available to the public, courtesy of ETIM Germany and ETIM Norway, and therefore could be uploaded without any restrictions.
If you would like to see more translations become available in the bSDD, contact your local ETIM office and bring it to their attention.
ETIM Modelling Classes 2025 preview.
ETIM Modelling Classes is a library of blueprints for standardized generic BIM models of common products used in MEP, Electrical and Construction engineering environments. It standardizes geometric parameters which allows BIM engineers to build generic parametric families while manufacturers can supply standardized data to make these generic models specific for their brand, series and type. These classes are providing links to IFC and to regular ETIM product classes. Combined with the already existing ETIM classification data it could bridge te gap between the engineering environment and the supply chain.
To stimulate adoption we believe it is important that it is made available for use in as many BIM related software applications as possible.
And to promote this process we have decided to publish the ETIM MC standard in the bSDD, besides providing our own API and our own ETIM xChange (JSON) format for exchanging product data to enable populating BIM objects with real data from the supply chain. All modelling classes are linked to IFC 4.3 and the recently published ETIM 10.0. As of March 2025 ETIM MC we have taken the state of January 2025 and released this into bSDD as a preview version. We are happy to listen to any feedback and will be available for further explanation of this concept if necessary.
Meet with ETIM International at the buildingSMART summit in Singapore
(March 18-20)
Benjamin Sjölander, Standardisation Manager at ETIM International will travel to Singapore in March to represent ETIM International on the buildingSMART summit. ETIM International, representing a massive flow of technical product data from suppliers all over the world, is strongly believing in connecting that data from the supply chain into BIM projects. Our partnership with buildingSMART International is an important prerequisite for achieving this goal. Besides doing a presentation, Benjamin’s trip will focus on two key areas: exploring potential expansion in Asia and networking with key contacts in the region. He will also be available to discuss our latest bSDD publications and gather feedback.
